I Don't Mean to be Petty

In 1981, The Richmond Tigers spent the season as reigning premiers.
They finished seventh that year - one win and a good few percentage points outside the final five.
Tiger Michael Roach did win the Coleman medal with 86 for the season, but this was one disappointing season.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released "The Waiting Is the Hardest Part" that year.
It may have spurred the Tigers on to the grand final in 1982. It seemed the waiting was over, but alas, no cigar.
Maybe next year.
Or the next.
Or the nextextextextext?

At this point, in this the most promising Tigers' season in years, I'm finding it torture to watch games.
Apoplexy and disbelief meets a loss. Anxiety, suspicion and only temporary relief meets a win.
Did I sign up for this with my blood-soaked yellow and black paw-print?

"Yeah-yeah. Yeah-yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
The waiting is the hardest part
Every day you get one more yard
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part. . . ."

You bet I signed up for it!

And our secret strength is now this:

All our breakable hearts are now broken.
