Tiger Diary 14.9.2015

Ghost Stories, Revenge and Missing Persons

North Melbourne will lose by about a thousand points next week, unless the officials have something to do with it.

The Tiger Diary observed a few weeks back that:

"Injuries and suspensions and umpiring decisions can really turn a season from now on."

Lindsay Thomas should provide the suspension aspect for North.

Swannies can surely play the injuries card in their defence (and attack!!) to claim underdog status, their most dangerous state.

Seems Richmond now have the worst umpiring decision of the year to reference their season's end. What a horror! Six points right then would have changed the result, no doubt about it.

Of course beyond their superior intensity, speed and sure-footedness, there were other things influencing the North win.

Revenge must have been sweet for Robin Nahas, just like it was for Matt White and Jay Shultz against Port Adelaide last year - all 3 were shunned by Tigerland and were then underestimated as opponents. Troy Chaplin, all our followers and all and the rest of our backs continued treating Nahas with contempt. They all tried to run around him, and all got caught. Very costly.

Then there was the Ghost of Carlton haunting us as ever in the form of Jarrad Waite this time. He played his best game in years.

And has anyone seen Trent Cochin, Brett Delidio or Brandon Ellis?

Seems we still had a couple of breakable hearts after all.

All this aside, we perhaps didn't play well enough to have won, but if the whistle had properly been blown for an irrefutable  free kick to Shane Edward only a few metres in front of goal in the dying minutes of the game we'd today be saying "Tigers win ugly over woefully inaccurate Roos", and next weekend I'd be yelling GO TIGERS! instead of mouthing Go Swans !

I've enjoyed the season. I'll survive this Melancholy Monday. I'm very glad Dylan Grimes has finally made a "best players" list for a game, even though it took a spectacular collision to get him recognised. I'll miss Chris Newman's greying hair and mighty left boot terribly. Let's keep refining our list, then who knows, Richmond?

Maybe next year.
